Claire Bord snaps up hilarious and heartfelt motherhood survival guide for Thread
Claire Bord has acquired World All Language rights in a sharp-witted, wholly relatable and refreshing take on how to get through the early years of motherhood from Abi Fellows at The Good Literary Agency.
Part memoir and part parenting guide, journalist Zeena Moolla draws on her own experiences alongside the parenting tales and advice of her single-parent dad. Zeena talks about how being brought up alongside her two siblings solely by a single dad, specifically one of a foreign, Muslim background, he not only defied ‘cultural norms’ and preconceived ideas by being an amazing single parent, he did it with honesty and an inimitable sense of humour.
Claire Bord said:
‘I read the proposal on my phone in bed at 1am after I’d finished uploading stacks of overdue schoolwork to three separate Google Classrooms and Zeena’s writing had me crying with laughter. Her honesty, humour and warmth immediately struck a chord with me. Zeena’s relationship with her dad and how he’s shaped her parenting is a big part of this book and it shines an incredibly important light into the kinds of parenting experiences that we simply don’t get to read enough about.’
‘I’m so excited to be publishing my nonfiction book with Thread. Claire and her team have already shown so much love and support for my book, that it completely feels like the right home for it. I’m also hugely impressed by their commitment to diversity in publishing. Championing underrepresented voices is something very close to my heart and from my first meeting with Claire, I knew that it was for her too. I feel really lucky to have this sort of passion behind me.’
‘I wish I’d had Zeena’s dry wit and warm wisdom alongside me when my children were small. She’s the voice of camaraderie for those of us muddling through as best we can and I am so excited that Thread will bring her hand-holding, bottle-proffering advice – full of genuine empathy – to all those parents struggling through the first year of their baby’s life.’
Everything I’ve Learned About Motherhood (from my single-parent dad) will be published in Spring 2021 in ebook, paperback and audio. The audio edition will also feature additional content with Zeena in conversation with her dad.
When you’re in the eye of the motherhood shitstorm, wondering how this tiny human can wreak so much bedlam in your life, you need a robust sense of humour to save your sanity.
