Bridgerton’s Adjoa Andoh to narrate extraordinary and moving memoir Coconut
Adjoa Andoh, who stars as Lady Danbury in Bridgerton – Netflix’s biggest series ever, will be narrating Florence Ọlájídé’s Coconut, published in July 2021 by Thread.
Florence was one of a generation of Nigerian children born in Britain in the fifties and sixties privately fostered by white families, then taken to Nigeria by their parents. Coconut is the story of her search for belonging and identity.
Adjoa Andoh said,
‘In her memoir Coconut, the remarkable Florence Ọlájídé shares with us a story of great encouragement. With grace, wit, insight and not a little heartbreak, through the prism of her own experiences, she adds to the conversation around modern migration; who we are in the world and how we navigate the cultures which have shaped us. Resilience, love and a loyalty to our unique sense of self, lie at the heart of her story.
And it is by giving our attention to the stories of others, that our own worlds open up.
As a daughter of Ghanaian/ British heritage, I am delighted to share in the telling of sister Florence’s particular, unique story.’
Alba Proko, Audio Manager at Bookouture, said,
‘We’re thrilled to have Adjoa Andoh bring Florence’s story to life. Adjoa is truly the queen of audiobooks, having lent her voice to many bestsellers like Americanah and The Girl with the Louding Voice. She has a unique talent for entrancing listeners with her award-winning performances.’
Coconut by Florence Ọlájídé will be published by Thread on 13th July 2021 in audio, e-book and paperback. The audiobook will be produced by Lisa Hollinshead at Audiobook Productions.
